Five Taliban Intelligence Members Killed After Vehicle Plunges into Panj River

Local sources in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province say that five members of the Taliban’s intelligence agency were killed and two others injured after a Taliban intelligence vehicle plunged into the Panj River in Maymay district.

According to the sources, the incident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, 5 July, in the Ghazdara area of Maymay district, near Nusay district.

The sources added that Taliban helicopters were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident to conduct search operations, recover the bodies, and evacuate the injured.

According to the same sources, dozens of vehicles carrying Taliban forces had earlier entered Shikai district from Kuf Ab district and were stationed in the district center.

The sources also said that following the deployment of these forces, the Taliban intelligence chiefs in the districts of Kuf Ab, Shikai, and Nusay were dismissed and replaced with new officials.

The Taliban authorities have not yet commented on either the incident or the reported changes in the intelligence leadership of these districts.
