Fasihuddin Fetrat and Taliban Governor of Helmand Travel to Badakhshan to Ease Tensions with Juma Khan Fateh

Local sources in Badakhshan Province report that Fasihuddin Fetrat, the Taliban’s Chief of Army Staff, and Mawlavi Amanuddin, the Taliban-appointed governor of Helmand, have traveled to Nusay District of the province.

The sources told Zhandark Daily on Wednesday, July 9, that the two Taliban officials went to Nusay to meet with Juma Khan Fateh, a dissident Taliban commander, and hold discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing tensions.

According to the sources, following the escalation of disagreements between the Taliban and Juma Khan Fateh, the group had previously deployed forces and established several checkpoints in the districts of Shikay, Nusay, and Maymay to monitor the movement of local residents.

The sources added that the Taliban had planned to disarm individuals affiliated with Juma Khan Fateh.

Tensions between the Taliban and the dissident commander have significantly increased in recent weeks.

In recent days, several senior Taliban officials, including Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the group’s acting defense minister, have also traveled to Badakhshan — a move that indicates efforts by the Taliban to contain internal disputes in the province.
